Two awards in the bag for Bar Phoenix, Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union bar, at the NUS Awards 2017
Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union has won the Best Bar None Most Improved Award and Gold Award at the prestigious NUS Awards night held at the NEC in Birmingham on the 5th July.
Sheffield Hallam Students’ Union fought off some stiff competition to secure their two wins. The Most Improved Award is in recognition of the fact that the Students’ Union successfully managed to go from a bronze to a gold award within the space of just one year.
Best Bar None is a National Award Scheme supported by the Home Office and the drinks industry which is aimed primarily at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises. Last night was Sheffield’s awards event to celebrate the achievements of those premises that sign up to the scheme. This is not an easy accreditation to achieve and the range of criteria you have to evidence is wide ranging and detailed.
Here is what Luke Renwick, Students’ Union President had to say about the victory:
“It is fantastic for us to take home not just one, but two awards from the NUS Awards, this is testament to the hard work put in by all the staff at the Students’ Union.”
